Best popup builder for Shopify: the five at a glance

Start with Shopify Forms for a plain signup popup, and pick Popupsmart's Shopify app when the popup has to read the cart or hand out unique Shopify discount codes. Privy adds email sending to its popups, and Klaviyo and Mailchimp put popup forms inside their email tools.

Free first: Shopify Forms and Klaviyo's sign-up forms

Shopify Forms is Shopify's own app, and its App Store listing shows it as free. The listing names inline and pop-up forms, discounts, triggers and exit intent, and it states no limits. A store that needs only a signup form, with or without a discount, can stop there.

Klaviyo's sign-up forms suit a store that already sends email from Klaviyo. Klaviyo lists web forms on its Free plan, which covers up to 250 active profiles and 500 email sends a month, and on paid plans. The forms work only on a site integrated with Klaviyo, so on Shopify the Klaviyo app embed, the theme-editor switch that loads Klaviyo, must be on.

Popupsmart's app: cart rules and Shopify discount codes

The Free plan covers 5,000 pageviews, 1 active popup and 100 email autoresponders a month. A pageview is one count each time any page of your store loads, whether or not a popup shows. Free popups carry Popupsmart branding, and the listing shows Unbranded from Starter.

The Shopify listing sells Starter at $19 a month, Basic at $39 and Advanced at $69, billed through Shopify every 30 days. Starter appears only on the listing, which shows its own plan list next to popupsmart.com's.

The cart rules are the reason to pick it here. In the app's Advanced Editor a popup can show or hide by cart total, cart products and customer tags, and those rules work only on Shopify.

For a first-order discount, the Coupon Code element offers four types: a fixed code, an existing Shopify discount code, unique codes from a list, and unique codes that Shopify creates for each visitor. The Popupsmart Shopify app guide covers the plans and the install.

Privy and Mailchimp: popups from an email vendor

Privy prices popups on monthly page views: $24 a month up to 10,000 page views and $48 up to 25,000, on its popups-only plan. Its email plans start at $30 a month, priced by mailable contacts (the email contacts Privy can mail), and include popups. Popupsmart's app has a free plan of 5,000 pageviews; Privy offers a 15-day free trial instead.

Privy's own integration page says to install Privy for Shopify, while its Shopify App Store listing says the app is not currently available on October 23, 2026, so check the App Store before you plan on installing it. Popupsmart vs Privy sets the two side by side.

Mailchimp lists popup forms on every plan, Free included, in its comparison table, but a footnote calls them a beta with very limited availability.

Which to install for your store

• A free signup form: Shopify Forms.
• A first-order discount with a unique code per visitor, or a cart-total offer: Popupsmart's app.
• Forms from the email tool already in use: Klaviyo's forms, if the store sends email from Klaviyo.
• Popups and email sending from one vendor: Privy, whose Shopify listing is the open question above.
