Try Popupsmart →Why a low sticker can buy less: six different meters
- Pageviews (Popupsmart, OptiMonk): one count each time any page loads, whether or not a popup shows. OptiMonk pauses campaigns at its limit.
- Campaign impressions (OptinMonster): one count each time a visitor sees a campaign. Its FAQ says it does not charge by website pageviews and advises a plan with 20 to 30 percent more impressions than your pageviews. Followed as written, that advice sizes an OptinMonster plan above your pageviews, so the impression meter only works in your favor when your campaigns show on a small share of your page loads.
- Page views (Privy): its popups-only plan is priced on monthly page views, while its email plans are priced on mailable contacts.
- Visitors (Poptin, Justuno): a monthly count of site visitors. Poptin counts anyone who visited a page with its code in the last 30 days.
- Popup views (Hello Bar): its free Starter plan counts 5,000 views in total, a lifetime count in its table.
- Stored contacts (BDOW!): the plan in the table includes 1,000 stored contacts.
Because OptinMonster counts campaign impressions and Poptin counts visitors, the same traffic produces a different count on each, and neither count matches Popupsmart's every-page-load pageview.
What it costs as traffic grows: Popupsmart's tiers and overage
Billed monthly, Popupsmart Basic is $39 for 50,000 pageviews, Advanced $69 for 100,000, Pro $99 for 250,000 and Expert $159 for 500,000. Past 500,000 pageviews the price is a custom quote. With auto-extend on, the setting that keeps popups showing after the quota ends, extra pageviews are billed in $10 steps of 10,000. Three steps equal the $30 gap between Basic and Advanced, so above 80,000 pageviews Advanced is the cheaper way to cover the traffic.
Popupsmart says its meter counts total site pageviews, not popup impressions, and lists very high-traffic sites as a weaker fit because pageview-metered pricing can cost more than impression-metered alternatives. Popupsmart pricing has every plan and the overage rules.
Annual billing, and OptinMonster's renewal
Billed annually, Popupsmart Basic is $32.50 a month ($390 a year). OptiMonk Essential is $19 a month billed yearly ($228), and Poptin Basic is $20 a month billed annually ($240). OptinMonster Basic is $9 a month for the first year, billed annually ($108), then $210 a year. The four annual figures sit on three different meters (pageviews, visitors and campaign impressions), so read each beside its own monthly price in the table.
OptinMonster says new plans are billed annually by default and renew automatically, and that its introductory prices renew at full price. Its monthly view is $21 for Basic.
Shopify apps and WordPress plugins
Popupsmart's Shopify listing sells Starter at $19 a month, billed through Shopify, and shows its own plan list next to popupsmart.com's. Shopify Forms is a free app. On WordPress, Popup Maker's core plugin is free, and Pro is $99 a year for one site.
Pick OptinMonster for a busy site that shows few popups, Poptin for a site whose visitors read many pages, and Popupsmart Basic for a site that stays under 50,000 pageviews and wants unbranded popups. Best popup builder for small business groups seven tools by fit, and free email popup builder covers the free plans.
