Seven tools offer a free way to show an email signup popup: Popupsmart, OptiMonk, Poptin, Hello Bar, Popup Maker, Klaviyo and Mailchimp. Each stops at a different limit. Popupsmart Free costs $0, and its first paid plan, Basic, is $39 a month billed monthly, as read on October 23, 2026.

Popupsmart's free plan ticks every trigger, including exit intent, every targeting rule and every integration. It leaves out A/B testing, analytics, Smart Mode with AI and custom fonts and CSS. The 100 emails are the ones Popupsmart itself sends, such as autoresponders, and a pageview is one count each time a page loads.

Signups go to the email tool you already use. Popupsmart connects to Mailchimp with an API key and to Klaviyo with a private API key, on every plan.

OptiMonk says every feature is on every plan, Free included, and that no plan adds its branding. Its Free plan has 10,000 pageviews, 1,000 AI credits and 1 domain. Poptin's Free plan lists the exit-intent trigger but not Unbranded, and it counts visitors. Hello Bar's Starter lists exit-intent detection, scroll and time-delay triggers, but not URL rules or device targeting.

A free WordPress plugin: Popup Maker's core

Popup Maker's pricing page says it has a completely free plan, and its WordPress.org listing says no monthly fees and no traffic limits. It runs only on WordPress. Your email platform's own forms: Klaviyo and Mailchimp

Klaviyo's Free plan, up to 250 active profiles and 500 email sends a month, lists web forms. The forms work only on a website integrated with Klaviyo.

Can Mailchimp do popups on a website? Yes, in a limited way. Its comparison table ticks popup forms on every plan, Free included, but its footnote calls them a beta with very limited availability to new and existing users, on web browsers only. A site or Shopify store must be connected before a popup form can be enabled.

When a free plan stops being enough
