Try Popupsmart →How exit intent detects a visitor leaving, on desktop and mobile
On desktop, Popupsmart reads mouse movements. Its sensitivity setting is low, medium or high and relates to how close the cursor gets to the close icon, and Popupsmart calls medium the best fit for most cases.
On mobile there is no cursor, so Popupsmart detects exit intent from how fast the visitor scrolls upward, and the popup must be switched on for mobile devices. Its help center also says new popups default to desktop and mobile, so open the device setting and check the mobile switch.
Klaviyo describes the cursor leaving the visible page on desktop and a quick upward scroll on mobile. OptiMonk says its desktop popup fires when the cursor heads for the tab bar, and on mobile it reacts to a fast scroll back up or the back button. How to create an exit intent popup has the Popupsmart steps.
Exit intent in Klaviyo and Mailchimp forms, and on Popupsmart's free plan
Klaviyo's form timing rules include exiting the page, a time delay, scrolling and pages seen. Klaviyo lists web forms on its Free and paid plans and names no plan for the exit rule. The forms work only on a site integrated with Klaviyo. Mailchimp's popup form triggers include exit intent, time on page, inactivity and quick scroll, but its popup forms are a beta with very limited availability.
On Popupsmart's free plan, exit intent works on the one live popup. A popup can carry several triggers, such as exit intent and scroll, and shows when whichever is met first. Free popups carry Popupsmart branding.
Paid for: OptinMonster Pro and Popup Maker Pro
OptinMonster Pro is $87 a month billed monthly, or $37 a month for the first year billed annually ($444), then $870 a year. Basic and Plus popups carry an OptinMonster badge, and badge removal starts at Pro. According to its FAQ, OptinMonster counts campaign impressions, one count each time a visitor sees a campaign.
Popup Maker Pro is $99 a year for one site. It adds both the exit-intent and scroll triggers to the free core, which has Click Open and Auto Open. Popupsmart vs OptinMonster and Popupsmart vs Popup Maker compare the plans.
Does exit intent lift signups? Popupsmart's own figures
Popupsmart's 2026 benchmark post says exit intent shows no statistically reliable advantage (1.10% against 0.78% for the median campaign). The post covers 28,674 campaigns from January 2024 to September 2026, and it compares campaigns as marketers configured them, without random assignment.
Pick Klaviyo's forms for a store that already sends email from Klaviyo, and OptinMonster Pro or Popup Maker Pro for sites already on those tools. Pick Popupsmart for exit intent free, then 50,000 pageviews on Basic at $39 a month, billed monthly.
