Popupsmart alternatives: six popup tools by price, meter and free plan

Last reviewed October 23, 2026

Quick answerPick OptiMonk for a bigger free plan, OptinMonster to pay by campaign impressions, Privy for popups with email, Poptin for a visitor meter, Popup Maker for WordPress and Hello Bar for a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Popupsmart alternatives: the six at a glance

Six Popupsmart alternatives, each with a published price, are OptiMonk, OptinMonster, Privy, Poptin, Popup Maker and Hello Bar, and each one meters traffic differently. As read on October 23, 2026, Popupsmart has a free plan with 5,000 pageviews and 1 live popup, and Basic at $39 a month, billed monthly, for 50,000 pageviews. A pageview is one page load on your site, with or without a popup showing.

Prices below are billed monthly, except Popup Maker, which sells a yearly license. A price in this table buys a different amount of traffic on each tool, so read the meter column before the price.

Bigger or different free plans: OptiMonk and Poptin

OptiMonk's free plan counts 10,000 pageviews a month on 1 domain. OptiMonk says every feature is on every plan and no plan carries OptiMonk branding, and its free plan does not expire. At the limit it pauses campaigns. Popupsmart's free plan is smaller, at 5,000 pageviews and 1 live popup, and its popups carry Popupsmart branding. Popupsmart vs OptiMonk sets the two side by side.

Poptin's free plan counts 1,000 visitors a month on 1 domain, and its Free card marks Unbranded as not included. Poptin's WordPress plugin page defines a unique monthly visitor as anyone who visits a page carrying its code in the last 30 days, so a visitor meter is not a pageview meter. Basic is $25 a month, billed monthly, for 10,000 visitors.

A different meter: OptinMonster's impressions and Hello Bar's popup views

OptinMonster counts campaign impressions, according to its FAQ, and an impression registers whenever a visitor sees a campaign. Basic is $21 a month, billed monthly, for 2,500 of them, and its pricing page names no free plan. Exit intent starts at Pro, $87 a month, billed monthly. Every plan carries a 14-day money-back guarantee. Popupsmart vs OptinMonster compares the two plan by plan.

Hello Bar counts popup views. Its free Starter allows up to 5,000, shown as a lifetime count in its feature table. Growth is $39 a month, billed monthly, for up to 50,000 popup views a month. Starter has exit-intent detection but not page rules, device targeting or logo removal. First-time customers get a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Popups with email in one tool: Privy

Privy sells popups together with email. Its email plans start at $30 a month for up to 1,500 mailable contacts, and every email plan includes popups. A popups-only plan is $24 a month for up to 10,000 monthly page views. Privy has a 15-day free trial, no credit card required, and no free plan.

Popupsmart hands each signup to an email platform and sends no campaigns, only autoresponder emails. Pick Privy when the same vendor should send the campaigns. Popupsmart vs Privy has the detail.

WordPress only: Popup Maker

Popup Maker's free core is a WordPress plugin with unlimited popups, and its listing says no traffic limits and no monthly fees. Click Open and Auto Open are free triggers. Exit intent and scroll need Pro, which is $99 a year for one site and carries a 30-day money-back guarantee. A Squarespace, Wix or Shopify site cannot use it. Popupsmart vs Popup Maker compares the two.

When Popupsmart is still the pick

Popupsmart still fits a site that wants every trigger, exit intent included, on a free plan and room to grow: Basic, at $39 a month billed monthly, lifts the allowance to 50,000 pageviews and removes Popupsmart branding. At 100,000 pageviews, Advanced is $69 a month against $99 for OptiMonk Growth, both billed monthly.

On a very high-traffic site, Popupsmart's own Facts for AI page says pageview-metered pricing costs more than an impression-metered tool. Popupsmart also publishes its own comparison pages, so what they say about rivals is Popupsmart's claim. It has no trial; its free plan asks for no credit card and shows whether a pageview meter suits your traffic.
